Position Title: Apprentice Electrician Tier 1

Department: Construction

Reports to: Electrical Manager

Employment Status: Full- Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Position Summary 

Assists licensed electricians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. Under close supervision, the apprentice gains hands-on experience while learning to read blueprints, follow wiring diagrams, and work safely with electrical tools and materials. This entry-level role is part of a structured apprenticeship program designed to build the knowledge and skills necessary to become a licensed electrician.


Essential Duties 

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems while gaining hands-on experience.
  • Performs Basic Electrical Tasks: Helps with running conduit, pulling wire, installing electrical boxes, and connecting wiring to fixtures and equipment.
  • Ensure Code Compliance: Learn and apply relevant electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations to support quality workmanship and safe job site practices.
  • Operate Tool and Equipment: Properly and safely use hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and other electrical equipment. 
  • Engage in Continuous Learning: Actively participate in classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and skills development to keep pace with evolving technologies and industry best practices.

Other Responsibilities 

  • Receive, prioritize, and complete daily work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials to ensure job readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Work with supervisors to ensure project completion has met or exceeded customer expectations, including but not limited to communicating clearly and professionally with site supervisors. Confirming satisfaction with results and addressing concerns.
  • Representing the company positively and uphold worksite professionalism. 
  • Perform preventive maintenance on hand tools and electrical related equipment to ensure longevity and reliability.
  • Adhere to all company policies, industry regulations, and safety procedures, including maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Provide support across other departments as needed during staff shortages, employee absences, or when assisting with      tasks related to light construction or general facilities maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a company truck or van.
  • Entry level experience with electrical repairs, maintenance and installation techniques as defined by assisting with the installation of wiring, outlets, light fixtures, and circuit breakers. Supporting licensed electricians with routine maintenance or simple repairs. Understanding how to safely shut off and restore power when needed.
  • Entry level knowledge of The National Electrical Code (NEC) and why it is important for safety and compliance.
  • Entry level ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material including but not limited to understand basic electrical symbols and layouts. Follow simple wiring diagrams to assist with installations. Read instructions for equipment or tools.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations as defined by using basic math to measure distances, calculate loads or amperage, and determine wire sizes. Converting units (e.g., inches to feet, watts to kilowatts). Applying formulas related to voltage, resistance, and current (Ohm’s Law). Comfortable with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Novice understanding and ability to diagnose and resolve problems as defined by Identify basic issues like tripped breakers, faulty switches, or non-working outlets. Use simple diagnostic tools under supervision (e.g., voltage testers, multimeters). Follow a logical troubleshooting process with guidance from a journeyman or master electrician. Ask the right questions and document findings.
  • Experience with using hand and power tools. Hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire strippers, and tape measures. Power tools such as drills, saws, and conduit benders. Understanding of tool safety, storage, and basic maintenance.
