Description

The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment and performs other duties in the construction, repair, and maintenance of the city's stormwater system.

Examples of Duties

  • Operates a variety of equipment used in stormwater system construction, maintenance, and repair, including front-end loader, dozer, tractor, forklift, camera truck, cherry picker, side arm tractor, bucket truck, and other equipment.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools, including jackhammer, chainsaw, chop saw, water pumps, lawn mowers, chemical sprayers, etc.
  • Operates vehicles such as a dump truck, vac truck, street sweeper, etc.
  • Installs cross drains and driveways; clears drainage ditches; clears brush and trees from right-of-way; patches street cuts with asphalt; grades ditches; installs stormwater drainage pipes.
  • Builds catch basins, block walls, manholes, and other structures; sets up concrete forms; pours and finishes concrete.
  • Cleans, maintains, and repairs tools and equipment.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Sets up work safety zones at work sites.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a related field;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
  • Valid State of Georgia Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid State of Georgia Class A or B Commercial Driver's License. ($23.92 / hour)

Additional Information

The selected candidate must complete the following requirements prior to starting with the City of Statesboro:

  • Pre-Employment Urinalysis
  • Pre-Employment Physical
