Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary:

Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, groundskeeping equipment, snow removal equipment, power and hand tools, and other specialized maintenance and construction equipment; perform safety and maintenance inspections on assigned vehicle or equipment. Keep equipment fueled and in good shape.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Mowing and trimming of turf
• Maintaining cleanliness and safety of golf course
• Planting and trimming of bushes/trees
• Spreading mulch or pine straw
• Raking bunkers
• Blowing leaves/debris
• Using small engine equipment to maintain golf courses
• Assisting in projects that require heavy equipment including tree removal, irrigation/drainage repair, moving of stone/large plants, etc.
• Operating one or more types of heavy equipment safely and effectively so as not to damage equipment or turf or cause injury to persons
• Loading and unloading equipment from vehicles used to transport it
• Inspecting equipment before and after use to ensure it’s in good working order
• Monitoring equipment performance and adjusting settings as required to perform tasks correctly
• Notifying Equipment Manager if equipment requires repair or maintenance
• Cleaning equipment after use and disposing of any collected scraps or waste
• Completing minor repair work on courses as needed
• Loading or unloading debris from dump truck, pickup truck, or dumpster
• • Loading or unloading items from delivery trucks

Required Skills/Abilities: 

•     A high attention to detail and awareness.
•     Ability to adequately understand and communicate in English.
•     Ability to work weekend mornings (every-other) and holidays (just morning).
•     Ability to use small engine landscaping equipment and hand tools.
•     Knowledge of horticulture, agronomy or turf maintenance.
•     Knowledge of Golf course maintenance and construction.
•     Must have valid driver’s license.
•     Must be willing to learn how to operate new equipment.
•     Knowledge of heavy equipment machinery.
•     Ability to operate equipment with a high degree of competency, skill, and proficiency.
•     Ability to drive golf cart responsibly.
•     Ability to operate, or willingness to learn to operate, a manual shift utility vehicle responsibly.

Education and Experience:

3+ of mid-heavy equipment operation

Physical Requirements: 

•      Heavy lifting (+50 pounds)
•      Carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, walking long distances.
•      Driving and operating equipment for extended periods of time. 
•     Requires focus adjustment, depth perception, clear close and distant vision.
•     Ability to work in all kinds of weather.
