This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in support of landfill activities.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. This position is required to supervise state inmate labor. Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must obtain Commercial Driver's License within the first year of employment unless specified otherwise by the Waste Disposal Manager. Ability to obtain GA Landfill Operator Certification once employed maybe required. Ability to obtain Blue Card for erosion and sedimentation also may be required.
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
The work is typically performed in an outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, contagious or infectious diseases, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
