Plumbing

Under general supervision of designated supervisor, to install, maintain and repair heating and plumbing systems. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing defective equipment, replacing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drains. Assembles pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using screws, bolts, solder, plastic solvent, and caulking. Cuts opening in structures to accommodate pipe and pipefittings, using hand and power tools. Locates and marks position of pipe installations and passage holes in structures, using measuring instruments such as ruler and level. Studies building plan and inspects structure to determine required materials and equipment and sequence of pipe installations. Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, and fixtures such as sinks, toilers and tubs, using hand and power tools. Cuts threads, and bends pipe to required angle, using pipe cutters, pipe-threading machine, and pipe-bending machine. Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observes pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.

Duties/Responsibilities

(25%)

  • Repair and maintain heating, plumbing, steam, water and drainage systems.

  • Repair, install and replace plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water closets, showers, heaters, hot water tanks and other related plumbing fixtures.

  • Repair and maintain dining hall equipment, including, but not limited to, dishwashing machines, garbage disposals and steam kettles.

  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes.

  • Correct openings in walls and floors in order to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings.

  • Determine appropriate sizes, locations, tools and methods of solving plumbing and pipe fitting problems.

  • Maintain and service equipment used in performance of duties.

  • May perform welding, brazing cutting, threading, bending and other normal plumbing and pipe fitting techniques, using appropriate tools and methods.

  • Repair and maintain steam distribution system and associated valves, pumps, traps and manholes.

  • Repair and maintain forced hot water and steam heating systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot HVAC systems.

  • Coordinate with outside contractors as necessary.

  • Work collaboratively with Plymouth Village Water & Sewer District.

  • Working with support staff for ordering necessary parts and materials.

  • Work cooperatively with other plumbers, HVAC technicians and other Physical Plant staff.

  • Help Physical Plant reach the goal of providing the best service possible to our customers.     

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • NH Drivers License

  • NH Journeyman/Master Plumber License

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Pipefitting including but not limited to soldering, brazing, pressing, threaded fittings etc.

  • The ability to troubleshoot plumbing and heating equipment

  • The ability or willingness to learn to rebuild hydronic pumps and associated components

  • The ability to adapt to changing technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Backflow tester certification

  • NH Gasfitter license

  • Training in confined space entry or willingness to be trained

  • Ability to respond to after-hour emergency calls

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
