The Residential Construction Underwriter is responsible for underwriting both residential horizontal land development and vertical construction loans within the Residential Construction Lending Group. This includes consumer (TRID) and commercial (builder/developer) residential construction and development projects. The role involves beginning-to-end preparation of loan presentations in collaboration with Loan Officers and Credit Administrators, including client communication, financial and collateral analysis, and credit presentation development.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite and prepare credit presentations for new and renewed residential construction and development loans.
- Collaborate with Loan Officers and management to obtain updated financial information from borrowers and guarantors.
- Support the completion and submission of Annual Reviews.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all borrower and project information.
- Represent the bank professionally to clients, prospects, vendors, and colleagues.
- Work collaboratively with Loan Officers to manage workflow and meet departmental goals.
- Ensure compliance with all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Proactively manage tasks and communicate project status, missing items, or obstacles.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in residential construction/development underwriting.
- In-depth understanding of construction financing, including cost breakdowns, municipal bonding, and project timelines.
- Strong technical knowledge of financial statements, cash flow analysis, and loan structuring.
- Proficiency in analyzing business and personal tax returns and financial statements.
- Familiarity with loan covenants and commercial loan structures.
- Experience with financial spreading and underwriting tools (e.g., Moody's, Sageworks, Encino).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of TRID compliance and residential lending regulations.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Effective multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
