We are currently seeking a Building Construction Plan Reviewer I for projects in Kentucky and Indiana. 

 

What You'll Do:

In this role, you will play a key role in safeguarding the quality and compliance of commercial and residential projects across the built environment. In this position, you’ll review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection plans to ensure they meet statewide building codes, fire codes, and local ordinances.

 

This is a senior-level role for a professional with 10+ years of experience as a plan examiner, building inspector, or fire inspector, or with equivalent accredited training. You’ll bring deep technical knowledge, an eye for detail, and the ability to clearly communicate deficiencies that impact code compliance. If you’re passionate about building safety, code enforcement, and guiding projects toward compliance and excellence, this position gives you the chance to make a direct impact on the integrity of the built environment. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Review construction plans, technical information and supporting documents and comprehend and apply applicable construction codes.
  • Effectively communicate through written documentation describing in detail the code deficiencies identified in the plan review process. 
  • Self-manage assigned plan review case load and prioritize to assure plans reviews are completed within the prescribed timeframe. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

What You'll Bring:

We are seeking experienced plan reviewers or experienced on-site fire and building inspectors. Interested applicants should have:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a one of, or combination of one of the following: plan examiner;  building inspector; fire inspector with extensive and specialized knowledge of construction principles, practices and procedures and the ability to interpret and apply the various statewide adopted fire and building codes (architectural, structural, fire, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, accessibility, flammables and combustibles, commercial kitchen hood, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, etc.), and applicable laws;

Or,

Accredited college training in any of the following area: Architecture, Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Engineering and/or Architectural Technology, Construction Management or Construction Technology

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam.  
  • Working experience and knowledge of construction principles, practices and application of statewide adopted fire and building codes, including but not limited to building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, energy conservation, automatic fire sprinkler system, fire alarm system, accessibility, etc.
  • Hold valid certifications from International Code Council (ICC) as:
  • Residential Building Inspector (B1)
  • Commercial Building Inspector (B2); and 
  • Residential Mechanical Inspector (M1) 

 

OR

 

  • Hold valid certifications from National Certification Program for Code Construction Inspectors (NCPCCI) as:
  • Test 1A Building One- and Two-Family Dwelling; 
  • Test 4A Mechanical One- and Two-Family Dwelling; 
  • Test 1B Building General; and 
  • Test 3B Fire Protection General;

 

OR

 

  • Hold a valid ICC certification or obtain the following one (1) year from date of hire:
  • Building Plans Examiner (B3); and
  • Mechanical Plan Examiner (M3).  

 

OR

 

  • Hold a valid NCPCCI certification or obtain the following one (1) year from date of hire:
  • Test 4B Mechanical General;
  • Test 1C Building Plan Review;
  • Test 3C Fire Protection Plan Review; and
  • Test 4C Mechanical Plan Review;
