 Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong background in the HVAC or Refrigeration industry to lead and manage our financial operations. This individual will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and strategic planning to ensure sound financial performance and operational efficiency.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a deep understanding of the unique financial challenges and drivers in service-based mechanical contracting, installation projects, service agreements, inventory management, and seasonal cash flow fluctuations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting: general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, job costing, inventory tracking, and fixed assets.
  • Develop and maintain accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Lead annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes with department heads.
  • Manage cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds.
  • Implement and enforce internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Partner with operations to provide accurate job costing and margin analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Manage external relationships with auditors, tax preparers, banks, and insurance providers.
  • Provide financial insights and KPI reporting to ownership and senior management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational and financial performance.
  • Oversee accounting team, including hiring, training, and performance management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting role within the HVAC-Refrigeration or mechanical contracting industry.
  • Deep understanding of industry-specific concepts: service agreements, project-based accounting, job costing, WIP schedules, inventory management, and seasonal revenue patterns.
  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Enterprise, Buildops, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate financial data into operational insights.
