Position Responsibilities:


This role serves as a key technical and leadership position within the engineering team, focused on HVAC and mechanical system design and project execution. The ideal candidate will act as the signing engineer for project deliverables, lead coordination across project teams, and contribute to internal development and mentoring.

  • Serve as the Professional Engineer of record for construction documents on assigned projects.
  • Supervise and mentor engineering and design staff.
  • Act as primary engineering contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Coordinate with owners, architects, and other trade contractors (electrical, structural, civil, etc.).
  • Provide expert guidance to internal teams including superintendents, VDC specialists, estimators, and purchasers.
  • Make timely, experience-based engineering decisions in fast-paced environments.
  • Contribute to scope development, equipment selection, pricing, and technical support during all phases of the project.

Position requirements:

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering in Minnesota or the ability to obtain licensure in other states.
  • Expertise in HVAC and mechanical piping system design, including packaged equipment, pumps, and hydronic systems.
  • Proficient in Minnesota Mechanical and Energy Codes, ASHRAE standards (e.g., 90.1, 62.1), and HVAC load calculation methods.
  • Experience with spreadsheet-based calculations and tools such as IES VE.
  • Strong leadership experience guiding design teams and working directly with clients.
  • Working knowledge of SMACNA standards, plumbing systems, VRF and refrigeration systems, control schematics, and modern construction methods.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Office 365 (Teams, Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint).
  • Experience working within cloud-based design platforms like BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Willingness to perform site visits for scoping, design surveys, and coordination.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Minnesota Fire/NFPA, Minnesota Building, and Minnesota Plumbing Codes.
  • Established relationships with local industry representatives and vendors (e.g., MMS, SVL, TMS Johnson).
  • Experience in collaborative problem-solving and cross-functional project leadership.
