Utility Construction General Laborer

Join our underground utility crew as a Utility Construction General Laborer supporting installation of water, sanitary sewer, and storm-drain systems on commercial, residential, and municipal projects throughout Baltimore–Washington Area. You’ll work alongside operators and pipe layers to keep jobsites safe, productive, and on schedule.

Core Responsibilities

• Hand-dig, spot utilities, and prepare trenches for pipe installation.
  
• Assist with pipe alignment, bedding, laying, and backfilling operations.
  
• Set up trench boxes, shoring, and traffic-control devices per OSHA/MOSH standards.
  
• Operate compactors, pumps, cut-off saws, and small power tools safely.
  
• Load/unload materials, rig pipe or structures for placement, and maintain clean work zones.
  
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report hazards or maintenance issues.
  
• Follow direction from foremen; complete daily time sheets and safety checklists.
  

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 1+ year of civil, site-development, or heavy-construction experience (utility work preferred).
  
• Familiarity with basic hand tools, lasers/levels, and construction math.
  
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and stand/kneel for extended periods.
  
• Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and commitment to jobsite safety.
  
• Reliable transportation to multiple sites across the Baltimore metro area.
  

Preferred Certifications

• OSHA 10 Construction Safety (minimum); OSHA 30 welcomed.
  
• ATSSA Flagger or DOT Traffic-Control card.
  
• Confined Space Entry awareness.
  
• First Aid/CPR.
  
• MDE Responsible Personnel (Erosion & Sediment Control).
