JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Welder
Department: Welding
Location: Lebanon, VA
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Welding Supervisor / Plant Manager

Job Summary

The Welder is responsible for safely operating welding equipment to weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals used in the manufacture of steel products. This role also includes general labor tasks as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections of the work area to identify and eliminate safety hazards.
  • Complete daily safety checklists for welding equipment.
  • Operate manual or robotic welding equipment according to specifications.
  • Set up, adjust, and clean welding equipment during production.
  • Follow job specifications with close attention to detail.
  • Perform finishing tasks such as grinding and sanding.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure products meet customer specifications.
  • Maintain clean and organized equipment, tools, and work areas.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Perform additional general labor duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or VoTech Certification required.
  • AWS Certification preferred but not required.
  • Minimum one year MIG, TIG, and stick welding experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Dependable attendance and punctuality, including the ability to work flexible schedules and shifts.
  • Ability to pass a company weld test.
  • Good spatial, form, and depth perception; strong manual dexterity.
  • Functional reading and math skills, including fractions and decimals.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills (listening, verbal, and written).
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to stand, twist, reach, and squat repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Team-oriented with a focus on quality.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant: Use of hands, manual dexterity.
  • Frequent: Lifting up to 65 lbs, standing, walking, twisting, squatting, reaching, balancing, fine motor skills, and multiple-limb coordination.
  • Occasional: Sitting, overhead lifting, pushing/pulling, bending, kneeling, climbing.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing plant environment with heavy machinery and welding equipment.
  • Safety training, PPE requirements, and written procedures are strictly enforced.
  • The company actively works to eliminate or control workplace hazards.
