Experience with gas metal arc welding/flux cored arc welding (GMAW/FCAW) welding process.
Pipe fitter experience, and
ASME pressure vessel welding experience
Full understanding of relevant Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and the ability to follow all parameters within
Timely completion of all welding operations within the operational time limits and according to company quality protocols
Successfully troubleshoot complex welding and fit-up issues independently
Responsibilities
Works independently using drawings, specifications, WPS and verbal instructions.
Uses various types of welding equipment and a variety of common hand and power tools.
Will fit up and fully weld the most complex heat exchangers and tanks including custom fabrications and extremely complex tanks, with minimal guidance by reading and interpreting standard and custom part drawings. This can take place at elevated heights, while working on top of tanks or from elevated work platforms.
Completes the most complicated welding repairs and performs final welding operations on complex weldments as needed.
Must be able to perform confined space welding as needed.
Uses FCAW/GMAW welding process, with or without backing, in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions, on both steel and stainless-steel materials.
Will weld full penetration welds on small diameter pipe using the GMAW process.
Must be able to use a scissor lift when needed to access welding work at heights.
Interacts with the Engineering team on designs and fabrication challenges as needed.
Reads appropriate Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and is capable of interpreting welding variables and assures that all parameters within the WPS are adhered to.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must be able to pass American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section IX welding tests with the following variables:
FCAW/GMAW and SAW processes
Steel-steel, steel-stainless, stainless-stainless
Flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions
With or without backing
Small pipe diameter in rotated horizontal position
7+ years of welding experience using drawings, specifications, charts and welding equipment
Strong knowledge of shop math and basic geometry concepts
Must be proficient in numerous welding procedure specifications including small pipe qualification and various welding positions
Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity and including standing and lifting for extended periods of time sometimes at height of up to 10 feet
Preferred:
Graduate of a welding and fabrication vocational or technical training program
3+ years of experience in a pipe, pressure vessel or structural welding shop
